Tres Meses

12lbs, 23 ½ inches long (rough estimate)

Month 3 came and went. It's crazy how fast time flies -- I now understand what people mean when they say "enjoy it while they are little because they get big so fast"!

This month we celebrated daddy's first Father's Day. We spent the hot, sweaty day at Aunt Carol and Uncle Tim's house with the family. Daddy loved his new golf bag, too!

Mommy and daddy left you for a weekend for the first time this month to attend Auntie Jen's wedding up north. It was much harder on mommy than it was on you. You stayed with grandma and papa and they said you were great -- we expected nothing less!

You have started regressing in your sleep habits and mommy and daddy are not fond of this. We are hoping it’s just a growth spurt and are working on increasing your feedings. Let’s hope this helps! It appears that you could be starting to teeth as you’re hands are constantly in your month and you’re producing a lot of drool. This could also be playing a role in your late-night wakeups

You celebrated your first 4th of July this month. We started out the day by attending the Milford parade and then headed to Grandma and Papa’s house for a bbq with the extended family. We took the traditional ‘baby boys photo’ and it’s so fun so see how you are all growing.
You had your first experience in the lake and to no surprise; you seemed to like it – that is, until a big wave came!

Likes:
*cooing
*ceiling fans
*looking in the mirror – it's a guaranteed smile
*naps – you’ve started letting us know when you’re ready for a nap
*your hands - you're determined to get both fists in your mouth at the same time

Dislikes: (this list continues to be rather short, however I'm not going to complain)
*sitting in a dirty diaper
*any loud, sudden noises that startle you

And your 3 month photos:
I love you.

Rattle Fun!

Easton is growing by leaps and bounds! Everyday it amazes us what he is capable of doing. Enjoy this short video of his first interaction with a rattle, just shy of 2 months old. :)

And while you're at it, this one melts my heart everytime I watch it. Cash is such an awesome big cousin! :) Easton was just a few days old here.

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with all the green, and even some blue!! I hope you had a great weekend, too. And here's to hoping this week flies by!!!  A quick peek at our 4 month photos to tide you over until I get caught up on my monthly recaps.

Two months, Too fast!

10lbs 13oz, 22 ¾ inches long

The second month went even faster than the first! I hope time slows down or you’re going to be in college without giving us time to save up for it!

You have been very busy. We started the month off with your first 5k. Auntie Jessie carried you the entire way while I pushed an empty stroller. Post-race, we ate bagels and bananas and you enjoyed a tasty bottle.

You helped mommy celebrate her very first Mother's Day. We went to IHOP for brunch with the family -- your first trip to a restaurant and you did great! After brunch, we went to grandma and papa's and spent the day at the lake.

Next was your baptism. Pastor Steinbrenner preformed your baptism and Uncle Jim and Aunt Coll served as your sponsors. You did great in church and we had a luncheon at our house following the service. You slept through pretty much the whole thing.

And how could we forget the birth of your new cousin! Zain Joseph Warren joined us 3 weeks early on May 18th, exactly 6 weeks after you. You were at the hospital for his birth but due to hospital restrictions, you weren't allowed to see him until he returned home. You guys are going to be great friends, I just know it!

The new family of 5!

Cousins!

You slept through the night for the first time on May 24th and mommy and daddy were very thankful for that!!

Mommy returned to work part-time when you were just 8 weeks old. Believe me, this was not easy for her and she was only looking out for your best interest (ok, and hers too!) You helped make this easier by cooperating and tolerating daycare. You of course, love your days with Grandma, too!

Likes:
*going on walks
*being in your "adventure seat" - daddy renamed your carseat due to the fact that we were always on the go
*you love baths!
*your activity mat

Dislikes:
*being hungry (I have a feeling this is going be on the list repeatedly)
*being paci-less

And your 2 month photos:

I love you.

Weekend Planning - It's a Blog Hop!

As I previously mentioned, I follow several blogs. I was catching up on my blogging tonight, reading my sister's blog, and learned about a "Blog Hop" at My Happy House. Looking for new topics to write about myself, I decided to tag along. Here is my first attempt at participating in an organized “blogging” event. Perhaps if others see my plans and I have to re-cap on my progress, I'll actually be motivated to do it. Now wouldn't that make my husband happy! :)

Friday:

* Attend the funeral of a college friend who passed unexpectedly :(
* Lunch and reminiscing with a great group of college friends
* Out to dinner with the girls for one of my best friend's birthday

Saturday:

* Go for a walk
* Run the vacuum throughout the house
* Buy a hula-hoop
* Engagement party for one of Bryan's best friends

Sunday:

* Do at least 1 load of laundry
* Change sheets on beds
* Meal plan for the week
* Squeeze in a walk
* Attempt to make another batch of baby food for the freezer
* Wash and prepare bottles for daycare on Monday

I better get to bed - it looks like I have a busy Saturday and Sunday ahead of me. :)

What are YOU doing this weekend?

Breastfeeding 101

A quick reminder that I am currently playing "catch up" on many of my entries, recapping the past 4 months of baby Easton’s life. Please note, this entry is written in real time.

Happy National Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7)

I was reading a blog tonight and it gave me a great idea for an entry: breastfeeding. I have learned a lot being a new parent over the last 4 months, but nothing compares to what I’ve learned about breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is like a marriage. It requires love, effort, patience, dedication, time, energy, and the list goes on. There are times you’ll cry, get frustrated, stressed, and want to throw in the towel and walk away. Whatever you do, don’t give up. Nobody said it was easy….but they promised it would be worth it.

As Easton approaches the 4 month mark, I am so grateful that I’ve been able to bond with him over breastfeeding. But it hasn’t been easy. From day one, we had latch issues and found ourselves feeding Easton expressed breastmilk with a tiny spoon while in the hospital. We continued to work with the lactation consultant, and it got a little better. However, upon returning home, it only got worse. Easton seemed to be satisfied, however I was not. Talk about pain. I began to dread feedings. When Easton cried, I cried. And as he ate, I clenched my toes. I needed a Plan B.

After weeks of struggling and suffering the pain of a bad latch, I resorted to pumping, and pumping only. For 6 solid weeks, I pumped and pumped and pumped. Wherever I went, my pump followed. And when Easton ate, I pumped. There were pros and cons to this – while it was a pain to have to lug that pump around with me everywhere I went, it was nice for someone else to be able to bond with Easton over a feeding (especially Bryan), and it was a huge relief for the girls. Not to mention, it was comforting knowing exactly how much Easton was eating and that he has no problem taking a bottle.

I returned to work part-time when Easton was just 8 weeks old and while pumping was my only option during the day, it became such a hassle to try and pump and feed him a bottle in the morning before getting out the door. I thought, if I could figure out a way to nurse Easton in the morning before work, it would save me a good 20 minutes. So after 6 weeks off, back to nursing we went. And to my surprise, we clicked!! It was a miracle – no pain, no suffering, no more exclusively pumping!!! It was amazing. So while I still had to pump during the day while at work, I was able to resume a normal breastfeeding life at home and it was a huge relief.

So here we are, approaching the 4 month mark and still breastfeeding. Our only problem now: my supply. Since returning to work, Easton’s demand has increased, yet my supply has decreased. I pump 2, sometimes 3 times at work, but while Easton is eating 6oz. every 3 hours, I’m only pumping 4-5oz. per pumping session and it is beyond stressful. Not to mention, my once sleeping-thru-the-night-infant, is now waking up at 3am to eat, and it’s getting really old! My only thought is that he’s taking a full 6oz. from the bottle but not getting enough to fulfill him when nursing. I am finding myself having to supplement with a little formula here and there to complete his daily bottles and/or to top him off at night. And I’m ok with that. Some people fear that after months of strictly breastmilk, their baby will reject formula -- not my little piggy! He will eat whatever you give him. I’ve tried several combinations, from pure formula bottles, to half and half and he has no problem taking anything. I do have several bags of frozen breastmilk in the freezer that I could be using in place of the formula, however I prefer to save the breastmilk for mommy’s night out, sleepovers at grandma’s and when I stop nursing completely. My motto is that partial breastmilk for a longer period of time is better than all breastmilk for a shorter period of time.

So, while I stress that Easton’s demand is only going to increase and that I’m not going to be able to keep up with him, I’m going to tough it out and keep breastfeeding for as long as I can. I am hoping that once we introduce solids (hopefully soon!), it will help curve his appetite and his demand for milk will decrease and meet my supply. Fingers crossed!!!

One month already!

8lbs 10oz, 21¾ inches long (at 3 week appt.)

You’ve been a member of this family for a month now. Time sure does fly – even when you’re sleep deprived and running on E (us, not you!) Your first few weeks home were filled with lots of eating, sleeping and diaper changes. And lots more visitors, too.

Nanny and Grandpa Bill (Easton's great-grandparents!)

Auntie Lauren and Uncle Jake!

We tested out the water as soon as we got home, and to no surprise, you loved it. Bathtime has become part of our daily routine and we all have so much fun with it!

You are a pretty good sleeper. You camped out in our room with us for the first week and transitioned to your crib with no problem. You are spending more time awake during the day and are sleeping 4-5 hour shifts at night.

You had your first playdate with cousins Carson (right) and Wyatt (left) – ok, it was more of a playdate for mommy and Aunt Cari, but no worries, you’ll have lots more of these in your future. Carson and Wyatt are just 5 days older than you so you'll grow up together just like their mommy and I did!

You celebrated your first holiday at just 18 days old -- Easter at Nana and Papa Jim’s and pretty much slept through the whole thing.

Some things you liked:
*mommy’s milk
*movement – any type of movement; bouncing, rocking, vibrating, etc.
*being swaddled
*bathtime
*snuggling on mommy’s chest in the morning
*your daddy- you were turning your head to his voice from day 1

And others not so much:
*being hungry
*tummy time – you rolled front to back for the first time at just 20 days old!
*sitting still - daddy blames this on me for never sitting still when I was pregnant

And here are your 1 month photos:

Keep growing little one. I'm having so much fun watching you.

I love you.
~Mommy
